Most UCAT guidance treats admission as a single threshold: clear the number, get an interview. In practice, every school we've listed here weighs UCAT differently against grades, and several weight it far less than applicants assume — some UK schools use UCAT mainly to rank borderline candidates rather than to screen them out outright, while others (particularly in Australia, where UCAT and ATAR or GPA both matter heavily) apply it as a harder gate. Treating every school as if it used an identical cutoff produces exactly the kind of false confidence, or false despair, this tool is built to correct.
The model blends each school's published UCAT threshold with its stated grade requirement and its typical acceptance rate, weighted by how strongly that individual school relies on UCAT versus academic record (the threshWeight figure in our underlying data). International applicants see an additional penalty reflecting the smaller number of places most UK and Australian schools reserve for non-home students — in a few cases, no places at all, which is why some schools show 0% for international applicants regardless of score.
UCAT thresholds move with each year's cohort — a harder test sitting or a larger applicant pool can shift a school's effective cutoff by 50–100 points from one cycle to the next. We update the underlying threshold data when the UCAT Consortium and UCAT ANZ publish new test statistics each year, and the "Updated" date below reflects the last time this was checked against current figures. Always cross-check a specific school's current UCAT threshold on its own admissions page before finalising your shortlist.
