Why EMI-vs-salary, not just total cost

A total cost figure on its own tells you what you'll spend, not whether you can actually service the debt. This calculator instead shows your projected loan EMI as a percentage of a realistic starting doctor salary in your target country — the number that determines whether the years right after graduation are financially survivable or crushing. As a rough guide, most lenders and financial planners consider an EMI above 40–50% of take-home income unsustainable for a new graduate managing rent, living costs, and (for overseas MBBS graduates) FMGE preparation costs on top of loan repayment.
